JANUR (2020)

Divine Hope

Janur emerges as a vessel of belief.

Drawn from local wisdom, janur ,the young yellow leaf crowning the coconut tree, holds a sacred place in Indonesian tradition. It is a symbol of Sabda Abadi, the eternal voice of the heart, carrying meanings of prosperity, divine intention, and hope passed down through generations.

The word janur traces back to anjining nur, the essence of light.

A light that guides those who believe in purity of heart and sincerity of soul. A light that remains visible even in uncertainty, offering direction through darkness and shelter beneath the blazing sun.

Rooted in Javanese and Balinese rituals, janur appears as an installation of faith: woven, shaped, and raised as a prayer. In this collection, its philosophy becomes form.

Strokes of janur-inspired embroidery move across silhouettes, illuminated by bright yellow tones set against STUDIO JEJE’s signature dark palette. Yellow emerges as a symbol of belief, faith that hope, born from clarity of heart, will always find its way toward the light. Like dappled shade, it exists between brightness and shadow, reminding us that illumination comes in many forms.

The collection carries STUDIO JEJE’s defining boxy silhouettes and bold curves, enriched with kerancang embroidery seen in light coats and flowing maxi dresses. This traditional technique mirrors the web-like geometry of young janur leaves, translating nature’s structure into contemporary expression.

Through JANUR, STUDIO JEJE invites the audience to hold onto belief. To move through each day guided by light, hope, and the quiet strength of faith.
